Discover the art of oil painting in these intimate new studio sessions. With small groups (up to 4 students), expert guidance and all materials provided, you’ll learn essential techniques to help you develop your own contemporary oil painting practice.

This course will cover:

Prepare your own surfaces

Learn how to stretch and prime canvases and panels, giving you the skills to create professional painting surfaces from scratch.

Explore oil painting techniques

Work with oil paints, thinners and mediums to experiment with a variety of painterly effects and textures.

Develop your own style

Discover application methods that align with your personal goals and begin to build your own unique colour palette preferences.

Understand paintings

Learn how to read the surfaces of contemporary figurative and abstract oil paintings, to better understand the processes and techniques behind them.

Intimate & supportive learning

With up to four students per course, you’ll enjoy an intimate environment and plenty of one-to-one guidance. The sessions are suitable for both complete beginners and those with some painting experience.

Materials

All materials are provided, including brushes, paints, and surfaces. You’ll take home a stretched canvas and a panel you’ve worked on. Aprons are provided, but wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on!

This course runs over six consecutive Saturday sessions in Jan-Feb 2026:

  • Saturday 17th January 10am- 1pm

  • Saturday 24th January 10am-1pm

  • Saturday 31st January 10am-1pm

  • Saturday 7th February 10am-1pm

  • Saturday 14th February 10am-1pm

  • Saturday 21st February 10am-1pm
